Donation

Donation does not mean being unrealistic about the economic system that is occupying the minds of the human race at this point in time. It is more about trusting in the human race and God to supply what we need. Therefore by donation is different to bartering or free.

If you go to a 'by donation' session it is good to be clear beforehand what you want to give. (see How much should you donate?)

When you give your donation, always put it in an envelop or a piece of paper, do not hand money directly to the practitioner, do not ask for change. Some practitioners will also have a donation box where you can put the money in.

To show your respect and appreciation for the practitioners service it is also a  welcome gesture to bring a nice flower (cut or potted), fruit etc as a little extra when you come.

Difference between free and donation

'By donation' means to give back something of value for something we have received emotionally, spiritually or physically. It's not about getting a bargain or getting something for free.

'Free' means we are not giving anything back in physical value. But we hopefully give back gratitude and joy, which in turn gives happiness to the giver.

Unless someone specifically advertises their service for 'free' (for whatever reason), it is not free and we should be prepared to give something in exchange.

When to barter and when not to barter?

Barter applies to the exchange of items, time or energy that we could also use money for. The main reason to barter is to avoid the money trail and the middleman so to speak. Bartering or exchanging is great for similar products or services.

For example if you are a plumber you could swap some hours of your time with a electrician if you need one. To swap one kilo of oranges with one kilo of apples is quiet viable and fair.
But imagine someone wanting to swap $50 worth of incense with a plumber? Unless the plumber is selling incense on the side it wouldn't be fair to the plumber.

Unfortunately a lot of people when they barter try to get something for free or think it's a good way of getting a bargain. They often try to get rid of something they anyway don't need and think they can load it off.

When you think of bartering, be fair. Ask yourself if the other person can really use your service or product. Are they getting really the same value?

The other option is to join a barter card service that is dealing in "barter $". That way it is just like dealing with normal money. You charge what you normally charge and customers pay what the service or goods cost.

Poverty consciousness

Poverty consciousness is a set of attitudes, beliefs, feelings and values associated with material lack. Poverty consciousness equals a belief in limitation, and almost always includes fear.

Poverty consciousness is not directly related to the amount of money one has. Rather, it is the relationship to that money or to material possessions. If you worry about not having enough money, you are in poverty consciousness. If you believe there is not enough for everyone in the world, you operate from poverty consciousness.

One can live in conditions of poverty without necessarily living in poverty consciousness, which is a state of mind and heart. The amount of money or other material possessions is a matter of fact. One's relationship to that amount is a matter of thoughts and feelings.

Keep in mind, that the same principles apply to other aspects of our lives. Some persons feel poverty or poverty consciousness about themselves. "Low self esteem" is one of the popular terms. It is a belief in lack, lack of one's talents or abilities, not having enough of what is wanted.

Ending poverty consciousness is a matter of faith. We all have faith, even though there are many who claim they have none. The question is not whether or not you have faith, but rather, in what you place your faith. Do you place your faith in money? In yourself? In lack? In history? In the future? In the visible? In the invisible?

If you live in poverty consciousness you will have a hard time giving or receiving as you are in a constant spiral of negativity.
It is very important to realise where you are coming from, being honest with yourself and starting to address this issue.

The best way to heal from poverty consciousness is to give as much as you can and watch the miracle of receiving from the most unexpected places. This will teach you trust in the universe and you'll be able to give more to the world. This is not easy in the beginning, but nobody said it is easy!

Spiritual connection

There is a healer in each of us and as breathing air is available to all, so should healing be available to all. Once we awaken to our own true God self we will be able to heal from any ailment and be able to help others heal themselves.

We will also be awakening to a consciousness of love, abundance and happiness from which the urge to share with our other brothers and sisters, without fear of hurt or loss, will arise.

This is when we will be able to work by donation from our heart, knowing that God is always, has always and will always provide our every need.

How much should you donate?

There are various way's you can determine how much to donate for a session. Some practitioners also have a suggested donation amount to make the decision easier for you which is usually a bit less than the average price of a treatment/service to make it easier for you to give a little bit more if you wanted to show your appreciation. (For example: I suggest a donation of $60 for my Holistic Colon Hydrotherapy sessions, even though the average price is $90 in Australia)

Some facts that you can look at are:

  • What is the average price other people charge for this service?

    for example 1hr:  Massage session AUD 40 - AUD 80 avg.=AUD60
                             Colonic session AUD 60 - AUD 120 avg.=AUD90
                             Ayurvedic Shirodhara session AUD 70 - AUD 140 avg.=AUD100

Give more than average (or the suggested donation) if you are happy with the service, give less than average if you're not happy.

  • What are the costs involved to run a business like that?

for example: Rent (home businesses often have a mortgage to cover), materials, equipment, training, legal costs, superannuation etc.
Lets say the base costs for running the business are AUD 30 per hour, if you give AUD 50. You've really only given AUD 20 to the practitioner (from which he has to pay food, petrol etc etc), as AUD 30 goes to cover costs.

  • How much would you like to get if you would do this job?

Whatever that amount is you should add something to cover costs.

  • How much benefit did you receive from the session?

This can often only determined after a session, but if you had similar sessions before you should have an idea of what benefits you will receive.

  • How much is your health worth to you?

Really it should be priceless and therefore if you appreciate your health you should also appreciate the practitioners efforts and be happy to give as much as you can.

FAQ's

What if I can't afford to give as much as I would like to give?
Look at the situation honestly, if you really can't afford to give more money (see also poverty consciousness), maybe there is something else you can give (eg. flowers, trees, veggies, crystals..) a little extra gift that shows how much you appreciate the service. You can also communicate that you would love to give more or offer your service to help with something else, like gardening, building etc. Every situation is different and your heart will tell you what to do.

I'd love a session, but I don't have a cent in my pocket.
Again be honest, take responsibility. The question is why don't you have a cent in your pocket (do you spend your money on smoking or other things?) or do you suffer from victim consciousness? Don't insult the practitioner by thinking he/she is stupid and you can just cry poor and get something for nothing  (definitely read more about poverty consciousness). Find a practitioner who works (by donation) on abundance / clearing / TFT to help you over these issues. If you really need the session you'll be able to work something out.

I grow organic veggies, can't I just bring some of those?
You can, if you agree with the practitioner upfront that this will be the best form of donation. But most likely the practitioner prefers to do his/her own shopping. Of course you can always bring a little extra gift which will be appreciated by the practitioner.

What if the session was really bad?
Never give nothing, as the practitioner always tries to do his/her best and even if you are very unhappy with the service, for karmic reasons it is always better to give more than you've received. Again, the best service you can give to the practitioner is by telling him/her that you felt that the session was not good and make suggestions for improvement.
